So I just got my an HDTV, & since I don't have a Blu-Ray burner, I'm curious to know if there's a way I can hook
my laptop up to it, & stream Blu-Rays (720p, or 1080p) straight from my HD, onto the TV, & keep the quality of
an actual Blu-Ray movie.

I have a VGA cable (Male to Male), as well as a straight HDMI cable (HDMI to HDMI), but last time I tried hooking the laptop into
the TV from HDMI it didn't seem to work.

So I guess my question is, I should be able to just hook straight into the TV from a laptop with HDMI from the laptop
to the TV, & stream Blu-Rays, since HDMI carries Audio + Video, right?

Or is there another cable I need to get, or a setting I need to change, possibly?

If it helps at all, this is the exact model of my TV.

Thanks a lot.

yes you should be able to do this, i watch movies on my tv all the time from my laptop. however i use svideo and sound cables to do it- doing this gives lil worse quality than what you would get out of hdmi cables. are you sure when you hook up with the hdmi cable you are on the right tv input?

I already know how to stream regular movies from my PC to my TV. I just want to know how to stream 1080p movies that I have
downloaded onto my computer, onto my TV, & retain the quality of a normal Blu-Ray.

Would it just be HDMI from the laptop, to HDMI into the TV? Since that carries audio & video.
Or would I have to change a setting somewhere?

Yeah, I'm positive I'm on the right input though. It's puzzling. :/

Very few Best Buy staff actually knew what they were talking about when
I spoke with them. I got more info from online, or from forums.

If you have an xbox 360 you can play movies on it though your network, or from a flash drive.
