I'm trying to make an instrument (an Erhu), and need to find a substitute for snake skin for the resonator box

What could I easily get that could get a similar sound to snake skin - leather, paper, plastic, etc?
Shouldn't be too expensive/difficult to get, otherwise I'd just buy a whole one

btw, this is a pic of the instrument

Not many snakes around where I am

Anyways Idk how to go about skinning/stretching etc

e- I have found a guide on how to skin a snake etc, but I doubt I'd find a snake quite easily where I am.

ee- Also, I would have to check with my local ordinances and laws on killing snakes etc

Look for people who own a phyton or big snakes then buy them the skin. I think snakes will change skin once in a month??..
