If something big were to happen would our government tell us or would we be left to die?

i just saw an actual commercial about a organization taking a lottery for people to come into shelter wtf is this?

Depends on which government "our" refers to but I'll assume it's the United States since your profile says you live in Ohio

But then you would have to define "something big"

" A Scientist determines that a meteor will collide with earth within the next decade. The man calmly informs the government of the issue and goes over the data with government officials. They then devise the best way to gather resources and facilities to outlast the impact as well as the catastrophic earth changes to follow. In the end the government plans to sustain a small population for a great period of time is completed and begin to search for the population equal to a small town to occupy the facility. Among these people will be the Scientist, high ranking government officials such as the president and others to maintain a civil state within the facility, high ranking and well trained army officials to keep order within the facility, all the necessary doctors as well as many other people of important jobs and social ranks, millionaires and billionaires that they let in on the news early in order to quickly fund the construction and gathering of resources, and finally a group of people that the government sees fit to occupy the facility. This would all happen within half a decade. As soon as they feel they are in a position to survive they will then inform the public who will now begin to see social collapse over time as many devise their own cleaver tactics on surviving the doom to come.

This is pretty much how I imagine it to happen. If you don't qualify for one of the above accepted people to occupy the facility I suggest you figure out your own survival plans for the doom to come... or if it comes.. you know.
