german companies r planing to invest 400 bio euros over the next years and to produce about 15 percent of the european electricity in northern africa
the memorandum of understanding does include 12 german companies atm , including siemens , deutsche bank , munich re and eon ( +swiss based abb )
http://www.desertec.org/en/ link to the hp of the initiative
atm it seems that some companies/countries have a strong opposition vs the project ( comments of nuclear friendly vattenfall 4 example r very negative )
i wonder what mid-/longterm political effects such a huge investment would mean to the *target* countries in northern africa ( marocco , tunisie , libya ... )
should the germany based countries open the initative 4 french ( state-influenced ) companies ? or would that hurt the idea ? should the project be supported by german gov ? or should it belong to the eu ( meaning more influence 4 countries like bulgaria or romania etc ) ?
