Anyone have any ideas for hobbit hole architecture?

I saw the movie LOTR and the hobbit holes, and i wanted to make one. O_o

We have alot of clay so i was thinking i could put something up and pile a shizload of clay on top of it then put grass over it. the problem is, what would i use for the internal structure so that it doesn't get all wet and rot away? Plus it would have to be structurally able to handle the weight of all the clay plus the weight of snow, and people walking on top of it. I was thinking i might be able to set up the clay, pound it together so its solid then like make fires on it or something to try to harden it (but it would probably just all crack up :/ and once it got wet it would just turn back to clay right?

Good thing theres no person to person interaction over the internet. Either way, you're looking at a screen. Theres no face in what you're looking at.

First off, clay is a terrible material for building structures on. It swells during the winter when the air temperature cools and gets wetter, and shrinks in the summer when it gets hot and dry. As a result, the structure will warp and crack. Obviously you have no clue about building on soil, and it takes more than a couple googled pages to understand about it.

Why? I like how he is keeping this forum alive with interesting questions. Sometimes they are stupid questions, tho, but better than nothing.
