What is Science?

That question, needs to addressed very carefully since many times science is said to be somehow explaining notions of supernatural origin.

What does this have to do with the question: What is science?

Simply, science is the practice of experimentation, rationalizing ideas with empirical evidence, and arriving at sound conclusions. It seems that any idea could be science, in fact, why not every idea that floats in my head be scientifically tested?

This post is in response to the fact that many science threads, that AREN'T science, *cough* Garethsir are still open. This means that the science thread is saturated with useless threads.

Please close all threads that aren't related to scientific ideas in any sense, to the extent where if the combination of hypothesis, data, conclusion are NOT present.

Lets start with this one.

Hypothesis: I believe that having all useless posts (Garethsir's especially) open, merely allows someone to bump them all and saturate the science thread with bullshit, which actually takes a long time to clean out the first page, since the science thread is very very slowly developed.

Data:

Conclusion: Close all threads that do not have verified science and are just childish musings about ideas which frankly hold no place in any sort of scientific environment *cough* Garethsir's.

I'll even donate 5fg to science, sheesh.

I whole heartedly agree... too many people just ask random questions that can be answered by Google or Wikipedia, and aren't even willing to develop a discussion about the topic. The only discussions that ever occur in this forum are about light speed / space travel etc... pretty much something that no one here can really explain, but can fantasize about easily and then come up with half baked answers.

I thought this was going to be an intellectual sub forum when it first opened up, and for a little while (like the first week), it was! And then things started going downhill when idiots like Garethsir started spamming -- where did you go Rew?

In short, this is just a place for spammers / trolls / +1's, because everyone knows that they will get absolutely nothing even if they post an intelligent question or try to spark an intelligent disucussion.

Or at least, just in this forum allow us to bump threads that are 3 months or older.

All of his threads are not science and basically retarded. If this was my first time reading the science forum i would probaly not come back because his inane threads.

Do you know what it reminds me of? Did you guys read about that kid who made his own web forum where he was the only admin and member, and it had like 20k posts of him talking to himself about nothing and replying?

yep, i saw that. He made a thread to "e-marry" himself to a pokemon nurse.

It was so pathetic, I wanted to cry.
