okay so i've been doing some research on embryonic stem cell research, and am looking for clerification on a couple of things, as well as confirmation on the parts i feel i am clear about.
ok so..
Clinton Years
  • Dickey-Wicker amendment passed in 1995, and signed by Clinton, preventing Government Funding for the creation of human embryos for research purpose, or the destruction of human embryos for research purpose
Bush Years
  • Bush bans Government Funding for research involving the creation of human embryos(via cloning) for both reproductive reasons, as well as for stem cell research
  • Bush bans Government Funding for research on stem cells aquired from embryos from in-vitro vertilization (used for reproductive) that were not used, and thus otherwise discarded, as well as embyos from abortion clinics
  • Bush Allows For Government Funding for a select group of 64 stem cell lines, because they were already created, and thus the used embryos were already destroyed
Obama Year
  • Obama disregards Bush bans on embyonic stem-cell research
  • However, because of the Dickey-Wicker amendment still being in affect, this essentially did nothing, except pave the way for that amendment to be repealed
Now, first of all, if any of this is not right, or if more information should be included, please tell me.
Now, where I am confused is, most of these deal with government funding, yet says nothing about private funding. Has privately funded embyonic stem-cell research been completely free and unrestricted all these years? or is the fact that government funding was banned practically the same thing? how does this work?

Also, im confused about bushe's bannings on embyonic stem cell research, and how they are different from the Dickey-Wicker amendment. The Dickey-Wicker amendment seems like it would have been enough throughout all these years. Why did bush need to do anything on top of that?

Also, Did Obama's recent change in the government stance on embryonic stem-cell research Change anything? i've read that it hasn't, except to get rid of Bush policy... however, if this is true, why did Bush create this policy to begin with?

PLease correct me if im wrong on anything

also, if you could supply sources it would be much appreciated. I have looked at plenty of sources, however most of my trouble has been applying restrictions passed by certain administrations to others. Some seem redundant, and I have found nothing regarding them all as a whole.

if its private, then government should have nothing to do with it
i would supply sources, but i think the bill of rights is enough
