hmmm so maybe the buildup of some chemicals in your body?

or perhaps its an automatic evolutionary mechanism designed to save energy while the sun is down (like mini hibernation?

This and, your brain also releases chemicals while it it is in its normal sleep pattern. Unfortunately chemicals are still released even if you are awake which can make you go pretty crazy if you stay up long enough. I start hallucinating after 72hrs. Why we release these chemicals is probably to relax your muscles in your body.

this. without it youre neurons start regenerating and the brain shuts off lobe by lobe
