I thought it was an awesome article. I've never heard of it til now. Didn't know it was even possible. It sounds crazy to me, tbh.

Discuss.

Two identical helical copper coils, one for the
source and one for the load, were constructed by the
MIT team for magnetic coupling. By fine tuning the
height of the coils, they were able to cause strong
magnetic resonance coupling between the two coils at a
midrange distance. The source coil was in turn
inductively coupled to a single copper wire loop which is
attached to a Colpitts oscillator. A Colpitts oscillator is a
simple electronic oscillator that consists of two capacitors and one inductor to determine frequency [4].
The receiving magnetic coil was inductively coupled to a copper wire loop attached to a 60W light bulb.

heh, that's pretty old as far as principle goes, but good work MIT nonetheless.

indeed. very old. Nikola Tesla was making wireless electricity ~1900.

This is nice, instead of cellphone signals and radios in the air, in 10 years it will be 120 volts.

It is possible to transmit electicity through Microwaves, they can go easily 60 miles (with the power reduced ofc).

There are microwaves trasmited and received on the other end with Copper plates (~26 of them on each boeard, with around 3-4 boards.) since Electrons get agitated with microwaves they can capture the electricity from the source throwing the microwaves towards them. It's not that complicated.

It was shown on Project Earth on Discovery Channel yesterday, google it or even youtube that, you should be able to find it.

Back a few years ago when everything was going wireless, I was thinking it would be really cool when (if) wireless electricity was available. It's cool to see technology advancing.

Tesla made a massive Tesla coil back in the early 1900's which could provide wireless electricity for a short distance around the coil.

why is wireless electricity really useful at all... ? Wouldn't it be rather dangerous and unreliable lol? I mean we have cables strong and lengthy enough...

I cant say it will never be useful but for the time being electricity in DC or AC currents will never be viable in a wireless state.

Because it's fucking awesome.
