you make a device that's always connected to the internet(wi fi hotspots are becoming more and more common every day), or something similar to cellphones(how they're always able to connect)
you have a website which hosts every single song(similar to pandora, or maybe a service where you charge per month to support the bandwidth)
then you give the device ~1-5 gigs to store the specifications(names/ artist) of the songs(.txt) that the individual likes and make it compatible with that site, so that you won't actually need to have any songs saved
say the device cost like 100$
and the service was 10$ per month
i think that's a good idea
120 gig ipods are ~$250, they are more susceptible to damage, you have to keep backups of your music, and new models come out every 2-3 years or so
25 months till it becomes more expensive than the most expensive Ipod. My sister has had her Ipod since the original came out all those years ago, and and Ive had my Zune for about 2 years, we are both issue-free with damages. I illegally download all the music I want, your process is more expensive. I wouldn't use it.
