Few years back I heard of a plane that would supposedly take off and go into space where it would shut down engines and just cruise and after that would re enter orbit and basically cut down flying time and fuel usage by a good amount... wondering if anyone else caught that story. can't really remember the plane's name or the project's name, but the concept is neat -- and practical. Al though i wonder how the plane takes off into space when you've got passengers who aren't trained to take such G's.

it wouldn't be air travel if the plane is going in space

its a type of plane lol. hahah...wow just thinking about it as a bird...the sentence is so perfect lol! its a blackbird...dun got too much seating...cuz its a bird.

anyways, yea, if they some how found out a good method to make this work I think it would be revolutionary... think about it...go around half the globe in an hour or even two!? thats absurdly fast.

Well it would probably use more fuel than normal just leaving the atmosphere.

I doubt the average person would be able to take the acceleration needed to pull that off.

One of the main things they test for in astronaut training is that person's response to high gees of acceleration, because if they pass out or panic they won't allow them in a closed off environment like the space shuttle.
