Ok, here is how it works.
If slippage is left uncorrected, as the years go by, because the calendar we use isnt exactly proper to the solar year of the earth, the seasons on the calendar slowly drift/slide down the year.
This makes it so that month one would expect to find winter starting, gets later and later in the year, until the calendar is fixed.
The #1 reason the Gregorian calendar hasnt been fixed is because Christianity wants to keep all its holidays on the days it specifies.
Any changes to the calendar would shift what dates holidays occur.

Like I said, its a simple concept, just ask yourself, why do we have leap year? when you find you don't have the answer, seek it out.
If you have never questioned why we have leap year, you do not have the mind of a scientist.
A scientist would have asked why a long LONG time ago, and we wouldn't have ever had this convo, because you wouldn't be ignorant about the topic.
