At one point we thought the earth was the center of the universe.
Whoops!
Thats why not being able to go faster than the speed of light was a theory.
seriously, please do know something about the topic before making such statements. Those two points are nowhere near analogous to each other. The first is some random, unjustified idea, while the second is a theory on which delicate appliances are based.

http://www.science20.com/quantum_diaries_survivor/opera_confirms_neutrinos_travel_faster_light-84763"It is necessary here to note that since distance from source to detector and time offsets necessary to determine the travel time of neutrinos have not been remeasured, the related systematics (estimated as well as -possibly- underestimated ones) are unchanged. The measurement therefore is only a "partial" confirmation of the earlier result: it is consistent with it, but could be just as wrong as the other. "
from a different article on the same experiment
well, obviously the 2nd round they double-checked the lab setup, so chances for a systematic error to occur is smaller, yet the same systematic result is obtained. At least we know it's HIGHLY improbable to be caused by random error, and that the probability for this to actually be true is higher.
Best way to approach this is openness with a slight flavour of skepticism. Is speed of light the limit? Probably yes, but possibly not.
