Évolution has nothing to do with whether God exists in not. It has, however, been proven true. Microbiologists use it daily, so do geneticists as well. It's used extensively in vaccines, anti booties, and different kinds of treatments. It's also been used by breeders, whether it's stallions, cows, dogs or cats.

Some people would have us think that just because the Bible says so, we're special snowflakes and the only living organisms on earth not affected by evolution.

This. Also our antibodies evolve and adapt to combat foreign invaders. Explain the mutations of viruses... Not directing this towards you, but more of a rant xD

Queso, a lot of people won't be able to comprehend what you are saying :/ I wish I knew you irl cause our convo's would be intense.

Likewise dude. I feel these are fairly simple concepts though :-/

A good point to bring up is Neanderthals. The book nor any religion says anything of them. But they were intelligent and had their own culture and what not. I'd like to know where they place them

One of the many things that the faithful cannot give you a consistent answer for.

Show me an observable change of species in nature.  Not an adaptation ( Darwins finches), but a change from one species to another that we can observe today.

The answers to these questions are never accepted by doubters of the theory of evolution because of how loose the vernacular definition of a species is.
For instance, many changes in species we see today get categorized as "sub-species" that have a novel adaptation (i.e. Darwins finches).
We do in fact see changes in species all the time as a result of "selection" from the environment; further more, these changes are not intentional per se, but also certainly not trivial.

It's easy to see why it's hard to put together a common link between species, all biological kingdoms have species with quite complex novel features (an elephants trunk, the trapping mechanism of a venus fly trap, etc.)
Let's look at an example in nature to see how complex biological mechanisms can arise from the result of small changes that result in speciation (the creation of a new species).
Let's look at flight, a function that appears not just once mind you, but multiple times during much different spans of time:

Here is a bird and a bat.

Quite different species we got here.

Birds have feathers, no teeth, beaks, and lay eggs.
Bats are mammals, they have skin, teeth, and give live birth and feed young by lactation

Birds are nothing like humans, in fact they share many of the same features as dinosaurs.
Bats though, even though they can fly, share many more features with humans (and mammals in general) than they do with birds.

Let's dive further into the anatomical evidence showing that bats share more features with humans:

Looking at the skeleton, it is clear that the wings of birds share much less similarity to human structure of an arm than a bat wing does.
Birds have 2 metacarpal protrusions
Bats have 5 metacarpal protrusions (like your 5 fingers)

Now use some deductive reasoning here... this evidence can only suggest that bats and humans come from a convergent evolutionary point.
This is NOT to say that humans evolved from bats, or vice versa.

But this evidence suggests that over millions of years, small adaptations to a basic structure can produce some incredibly diverse things, the result of which is the life around us :)

evolution is a lot of shite

So why do we not see chimps that are (rare candy used) evolving into humans today?

lol of course evolution is false. all these so called 'fossil' records are made up. It's only year 2014 how the fuck do you get million years ago?

Dogs stay by owners side even if they end up homeless and cannot afford enough food to feed it.
god created them to be man's best friend.

Bio major here and I'm new to science sub-forum. Is it common practice to troll this sub-forum like this? If so there's a double standard, as trolls are forbidden in Christian Fellowship right?
This kind of nonsense clearly impedes the progress of discussions. unfortunately it derailed this thread for several pages.
If you are not trolling (and sincerely believe what is mentioned above), please do some basic research before posting in a thread like this thanks.

That being said, this sort of thing is discussed all the time in evolution. Humans are the fifth ape.. that means orangutans, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and humans share a fairly recent (in evolutionary terms) ancestor.

Here's a great watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shkWhBVfe3o

It happens from time to time. And yeah, if you question anything in christian fellowship I'd imagine you'd get warned/suspended. It's like their church I guess, gotta be respectful while inside. It would indeed be nice if they returned the favor and kept their opinions out of the science subforum.

The best place to discuss it is PaRD subforum, but even then you have to be careful since it's a touchy subject and there's a significant number of superstitious people. Many of which won't even listen, since the human mind tends to view such an objective analysis of its beliefs as offensive, and thus reject it without giving it honest consideration.
