i'm pretty sure the mayan calendar did not say 2009 was the end of the world, rather some huge cataclysmic event would happen.

in any case, i intend to survive :P

It might not "end" but we could get pretty fucked up. 2012 is the expected year for the Solar Maximum, which means more powerful solar flares. A strong enough solar flare would zap all the electronics, GPS, satelittes, etc. The last one in 1958 produced Northern Lights in Mexico.
