Too hard of a concept to wrap my mind around. Cloning (dolly the sheep) shows that eukaryotic cells have some predetermined lifespan. But it is very vague.

we wont have immortality
but we'll have miniature iPhones with cameras, video, mp3, high speed internet, and maybe Call of Duty 9

if you dont get the gist of what im saying
its that our society doesnt really focus on that kind of thing

Would be cool. If i found out how to do it, i wouldnt share it with people.
Speaking of immortality, does anyone know about nicholas flamel. He
was some famous alchemist and when he died, some people robbed his
grave and his body wasnt there so ive been told.

I think it's just giving people a false sense of hope.

Whoever is trying to figure out immortality, I would rather them figure why we need sleep. (to rest and rejuvenate supposedly)
Even by understanding how the body works, don't think you can stop aging..

I'd rather them figure out a way for humans not to require sleep.
That way we won't have to spend all night doing homework and crash during class.

Immortality will be only possible if ure blessed by holy ghost
or sth like that, otherwise all parts of ur body will be scuffed after a certain time.
Due to this fact all body parts and organs would have to be replaced once in a while,
including our brain ofc.
All regenerated parts will never be the same, except someone finds a way
to catch the essence of our souls in vitro to reinject it again.
I doubt that sth like that will ever happen.
Even reincarnation will be more likely than immortality ;)

cause you believe in souls. those of us that dont believe in souls can see it as a possibility. ofc though all body parts will be replaced though at some time. as for the brain, thats pretty much the thing that makes us who we are. if we have our brain intact i see us as being the same person no matter how many organs have been replaced.

Well i only used the expression "essence of soul" in a metaphorical sense.
If u have for example two humans with 100% identical genetic material, they won´t
form in the same way, since all impressions they assimilate, will influence them differently.
That´s imo, how personality is generated.
Ofc the brain is our main-steering-device, but is it really responsible that we are who we are?
Tja...the big old question the scientists have been lookin for such a long time: "where´s the essence anchored that makes everybody unique?"
I think that our brain just has its purpose and acts besides all other vital functions
as a programmable logic controller, but it is subordinated to factors like personality ;)
