that's also like saying you genetically inherited genes that make you fat. Who is to say you can't eat healthier and exercise? And who is to say you can't counteract stupidity with  influences other than work ethic

You can't. Forrest Gump was stupid but he worked hard and made the best out of it. Some people study their asses off and still can't pass the test. Just like some 5'6'' kids play basketball all day just to get turned down from the team.

I myself am someone who you can classify as a "slow learner" and manage to get good grades through hard studying. But is there any way a person can strengthen their mind while keeping their instinct of learning/studying when for example, their memory is in fact slow? I just recently read about synapse transmission and the direct connection to memory (neurotransmitters are carried along neurons in the body) and find that through practices such as meditation, one can strengthen their mind by simply relieving stress (which increases synapse transmission). Is this true or simply hypothetical?

Yes actually meditation does infact increase memory. There have been a few tests here and there that do prove its usefulness, actually meditation when done right can be very effective -- not only can it strengthen the mind, but it can also generate heat in your body (there are buddhist monks who meditate in the cold himalay mountains with nothing more than a robe) and can control the release of certain chemicals.

Though, to be very honest, memory is not a measure of natural intellect.

Actually, your weight is strongly influenced by genes.
That's not to say it's the sole determining factor, but it plays a significant role.

No way, same here. Only I always seem to push through at the last second. I believe that's called procrastination?

Same boat for me.
I almost never did homework at home or studied till college. I 4.0'd almost everything in highschool. I never took the PSAT, I was among the last people to take the SAT and I didn't really study for that. I applied to one university and I did so 15 minutes before the deadline.

Once I started at the university it bit me in the ass because of some personal stuff and horrible study habits/procrastinating on my part. I had like one class in my entire life prior to that where it was at a similar level of work. I really wish the school system would further push work ethic & study habits.
But since then I've gotten better about doing it (I still procrastinate and don't study enough) and this quarter I averaged a 3.4 and I'm certain that I'll do better next quarter.

Well I guess thats just a testament to the fact that some people just require harder work to do better -- maybe they were licked from the start with 'bad genes' lol, or maybe they slacked off during their early years so now they have to work harder than they would have had to. Though I truly believe that if you work hard enough, theres nothing you can't do...no matter how stupid you are -- it just requires perseverence and effort...and unfortunately for my lazy ass, work ethic is what counts most.

I think there are some limitations, but I think in most situations enough hard work can make up for it... but good luck getting into the NBA at 5' (or becoming a track & field champion).

Yea I mean NBA requires natural talent and hard work...good luck getting into the NBA even if you're 6'+ Its rediculously hard to get into...yes I agree there are some limitations because the high bar will always be set by those who have the mix of natural talent and hardwork.
