To the future? Fast movement, slow down your own frame as has been said before. To the past? Travel faster than the speed of light requiring the observer to be massless (e.g. tachyons) causing all kinds of weird affects such as difference of causality in different frames (i.e. event A may trigger event B in frame #1, but event B may trigger event A in frame #2 assuming that one of the frames is traveling faster than the speed of light).

If one was able to fly faster than the earth's rotational speed, in the same direction, eventually one would go to the future?

And to go back in time, one would fly in the opposite direction?

Wrong.

#1. you need a gravitational field LARGER than the earths (AKA, a neutron star...)

#2 you need to be "spinning" in the opposite direction that the electrons of the objest(your craft) is spinning. (to efectivly "stall" the energy of the electrons and the information encoded on them, so that the craft and you, are no longer "moving" through time)

#3 you need invincibility (THINGS cant kill you) and EXTREMELY prolonged life(the decay of energy takes a prolonged period). this is because you will be neutral in deep space for a prolonged period, because you have to wait for time to "move" past you.

its IMPOSSIBLE to "move through time" but it is possible to "stall" time so that you can efectily "fall behind" the time-line of earth.

basicly, to understand what im talking about you have to understand what the 4'th dimention (time) is and how it works...... here.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnURElCzGc0&feature=fvst
the link is carl sagan explaining the 2'nd, 3'rd and 4'th dimention. he NEEDS to explain the first 2 for you to comprehend the 4'th dimention.

this is one theory yes, but apon the realisation that (Mass>Rotation<Speed)=(Gravity) you come to the next realisation......... that to "become massless" is to disrupt the gravity of every SINGLE micro particle (muons, glueons, neutrons, protons, electrons, and even the electrons that turn into photons because of spin disruption) can never be brought back together. including by "gravity".

its kinda like humpty dumpty, how all the kings men and all the kings horses couldn't put humpty back together again. you would just LITERALY turn into space dust.

Actually there are quite a lot of models that treat time just like space. Examples, Minkovsky space and Euclidean space -- they treat time in the direction as they do space, so if you are able to simply turn around and back wards in space you should be able to do so in time as well.

Space travel backwards in time may be physically impossible -- but theoretically there must be a way to do so. What julius is trying to get at, is, what if paradoxes are just limitations of our own mind? Nature doesn't know whos who. If i went back and killed my father before I was conceived, well I wouldn't disappear since i distinctly remember being conceived -- but at that point I would become "this man's murderer", not his son. This is what julius was saying by flinging around the word dimensions. Perhaps they exist, perhaps they don't -- but shouldn't necessarily assume that these paradoxes are the limitation of time travel, they are most probably just human limitations.

No wonder he wants to kill his father and stop his own existance if he distinctly remembers his parents rubbing uglies to make him.

you all pre-suppose that time is an independently existing thing that is tangible/can be manipulated; no one ever stops to consider that the concept of time is just a repercussion of perception of general change recorded in memory in a linear fashion. The best you could do is slow the effects of time by traveling at consistently higher speeds but even then you would have to accelerate beyond light. I think I lost myself while i was writing that.
