Okay, well you believe evolution is a fact.
I believe God is a fact.
Even if evolution is, indeed, a fact, it is considered a theory.

Your last sentence makes no sense to me.

Do all followers of "God" call his existence a theory...?

Evolution is a theory. The Big Bang is a theory.
A theory is an unproven fact, basically.

Last I checked, gravity was not a theory.

It's all good.

Fun small discussion, though.

I must be off to other threads!

Well, there is both a theory of gravity and a law of gravity, where the theory tries to explain the phenomenon and the law is the physical representation of it.

That's what I meant by theory. Thanks for saving me some of the embarassment.

My morals are guided by religion.
My thoughts are guided by science.

good answer. more people in the world need to think like this, the world would be a better place smile.gif

gravity is both a law and a theory

its effect is a law, why it happens is a theory

edit: fuck, i just saw wiggum's post

ugh. a theory is a framework of reality/ a verifiable hypothesis which is supported by evidence and is also subjected to scientific scrutiny. theory and fact aren't mutually exclusive. Evolution is a fact. Bacteria do it, viruses do it, there is a fossil record which supports it, I don't think there's any reason to not treat it as such.

Our explanation for how the mechanisms of evolution happen is the theory. Organisms changing over time is a fact... but that is pretty much just reiterating the obvious (well I guess except to the YEC).
