I read it with an open mind while I was Christian, and now I am an atheist. You're reading it with a closed mind and a pre-conceived notion that God Is Love, so you don't actually read what the words say. All the barbarism, misogyny, homophoboia, xenophobia, etc. is just ignored because it's inconvenient and contrary to your own internal set of morality.
I find in life as i get older people push there own problems on others you've put my thoughts on God into you're own words god gave us examples to better ourself. Of course the sceptic's will try to find flaws and demenezes people of faith.
Example: brothers tell me about someone finance problems and giving advice on how to fix it, well his own finance aren't in order.
That advice should be smashing him in the face.
