So here's a question.. I'm of the opinion that the universe itself is a paradox(which it is).

Science: What existed before the Big Bang? Or whatever you believe caused the universe? Inb4 nothing, nothing is still something.

Religion: What existed before God? Or whatever you believe cause the universe? Inb4hewasalways here, wrong.

So here's the paradox I believe in. Forever doesn't exist, because time has a start and an end, but at the same time, Forever DOES exist because even before the start of time, and after it, something was still there.

Anyone have an opinion on what was there before it all?

it's likely that the human brain simply does not have the ability to comprehend absolute nothing.

also quantum mechanics proves that something can be created nothing... and physicists have proof that the universe could have created from nothing but quantum fluctuations due to the fact that the total energy in the universe is 0 (total matter of energy - negative energy (gravity))

what came first the chicken or the egg

the egg

because evolution doesnt occur on individuals but rather populations
so an animal cant just evolve into a chicken as it grows D:

What? Who taught you quantum mechanics? Or for that matter, physics at all? Gravity's a force, and forces aren't the same thing as energy.

If there were literally nothing in the beginning, then the wave function of Nothing would be Psi = 0. There couldn't be any quantum fluctuations to spontaneously create something from nothing like that. If there's anything that studying Quantum shows, it's that energy and momentum are still both conserved.

hmm... reading that just made me think of anti-matter! woohoo!

Takes energy to move or make a force, right? Just curious, not flaming or anything.

Energy = Work = the dot product between Force and Distance vectors, i.e. Work = F * d * cos (theta), where theta's the angle between the Force applied and the distance moved. tehmilk's argument is flawed because there's no reason to believe the energy associated with the expansion of the universe needs to be equal to the mass-energy of the universe.

paradox alert. "before" means nothing in an existence without time. same for after.
