Human "choices" are the result of chemical reactions taking place in the brain. You're just a complex biological machine, nothing more. I know that sounds cold, but free will does not exist. Given sufficient information (google the book Single Neuron Computation, and single neuron dynamics) you could predict exactly how an organism's life will turn out.

True free will would negate cause and effect. Ultimately we're all just a very complex system. Free will is our personal experience of a system too complex for us to reliably understand.

False. Human beings can resist those "Chemical Reactions" by knowing right from wrong, people don't do anything they want. There is indeed Willpower.

Why doesn't anyone use scientific arguments instead of moral arguments. Go you... not.

Because they can't find any scientific evidence to back up their claims.

youre right but everytime I try to explain this everyone tells me im wrong etc and narrow minded
if youre like me then I feel ur pain
thats just too complicated to explain
theres many factors :
- humors, which can be be good or bad, ( depending on if youre sick, if u r hungry, etc etc or if u have other problems )
- genetics
- how you are build psychologically
and much more

we don't control anything, even though it looks as if we are.

its not "free"
if you were really neutral, you shouldnt know the difference between the wrong and the right
thus if u prefer to act good, its good, but ure not free

Maybe you shouldn't take it so literally. We read texts at school and we can easily stop taking all of it literally, because it is from our time. Yet, people read the bible and take it ALL literally. Since when have people ever spoken completely literally? Never.

If you've studied neurology, you would know that right are wrong are determined by involuntary emotional reactions inside the brain. Psychopaths don't have them, all their thinking is done with their logical part of their brain, so it is easy for them to commit heinous crimes.

The amount of nonsense in this thread is overwhelming.

Let me destroy this thread:

You must believe in free will. There is no choice.

Tell that to someone with delusions. Having delusions can have people behaving in ways they normally wouldn't, because they believe things to be happening to them for which there is no evidence. They don't have the free will to decide if they should simply not react, because it is real to them.
