it's important to note that all of the numbers up there are repeating, that is they go on forever. we're not talking about just .999, which is nine hundred ninety nine one thousandths

.999 forever = 1, read the thread. its mathematically proven so, your guess work isn't valid.

If .999 = 1, then you could multiply .999 by X and get the original value.

Since you can't, .999 =/= 1.
