fluid motion = due to pressure gradient
the interesting thing is, even little kids intuitively understand this, the first time they get screwed at McDonald's and get a straw with a hole in it. It don't take them long to figure out you have to cover the hole with your finger...

Even more interesting is that it's false! :o Fluid motion is due to a gradient in chemical potential, it's just that pressure is an amazing approximation for fluids.

well if you want to go that far down the rabbithole, why not blame it all on the Pauli exclusion principle!

Because encountering situations where fluids don't flow due to a pressure gradient is common. Reverse osmosis for example.

I think you mean osmosis?

force analysis is much more intuitive and applicable compared to energy analysis on this thing everyone blew up on...

Worse, a quick calculation shows you would need to burn about 10 units of gasoline to get the MINIMUM energy required to lift 1 unit of gasoline off Titan using an idealized launch system. Any real system would probably require several times as much.

So.. you're saying that we can really only get 10x the amount of earth's oil as opposed to 100x? I guess it's a lost cause then..

wouldn't gravity and the siphon effect cause it to just flow freely towards earth?

Good question was wondering that
