Ethical, in the sense of preserving the vast variation of nature, and particularly preservation of the species.
Unethical towards individual members of the species.
Utilitarianistically, ethical.
*Dont remember what was anti-utilitarianism called*, unethical.
i agree for the most part.
personally i feel that its ethical too for preserving species *lonesome george*. also i can understand the use of zoos for scientific research.
however, i do believe zoos only looking solely for financial gains are unethical.
if the zoo serves a purpose in society i see it as no less ethical livestock farms

And there is still the ethical side of zoos. Man does not own other species. We cannot do whatever we want with them saying that they are 'better off' that way. It is an utopian ideal that man could exist peacefully side by side with other species, not trying to rule them. And remember i have never said that we should close zoos. Imprisoned and injured animals cannot survive in the wild. But i also think that it is unethical to breed species. 99,9% species ever lived are now extinct. This is just part of life and we should not play nature.
utopian ideal... how the fuck would we, as omnivores, eat if we are supposed to live peacefully with our prey?
