i believe in australia a few scientists actually got an atom to appear at two places at once.... forcing it to teleport through a mass...(not sure if it was glass or what.)

so... eh.

Do you mean quantum tunneling? Quantum tunneling is an instance of nucleons tunneling through the force barrier so to initiate alpha decay.

From a philosophical standpoint, a teleporter is tantamount to a suicide machine. The person coming out the other end would be a perfect clone of you but not you. I can prove it too! Say the machine had the potential to malfunction and not vaporize your body on the sending end. It would still transmit the data on the other end, BUT that would clearly result in a clone, because the original is still in the first teleporter. The fact this possiblity exists even if the machine worked flawlessly demonstrates a teleportation machine would make only COPIES.

I really do hope you are just a troll, because this is not an argument; you are making a flawed statement based on flawed ideas that you've made up. From a philosophical standpoint, you've either made no argument at all as of yet (technically), or you have made a flawed argument.

If hypothetically you were able to move the speed of light you would experience a teleport-like effect. You would not experience the trip only the beginning and end. This is also what photons experience when they move from source to target. HOWEVER due to relativistic effects, other people would not see your "trip" as instant. They would experience a dilated time for your trip.

QM tunneling is a different thing all together. It deals with a potential barrier with a particle moving towards it with a kinetic energy lower than the potential barrier. A macroscopic example: Say you were driving 40mph and there was a hill ahead. At the base of the hill you let off of the gas and only had enough kinetic energy to get the car half way up the hill. There is an enormously small chance you will tunnel through the hill. The chance of tunneling is related to the wave equations as determined by the system. You can actually treat a moving car as a DeBroglie wave and solve the Schrodinger equation to determine the transmission and reflection coefficients which will give you a chance to tunnel. The numbers are much more realistic when dealing with nanoscopic QM systems as opposed to classical systems (which are just a limit of QM systems).

Actually his argument is my own. The teleporter on the sending end destroys your body in order to send an exact copy of it made from exactly the same molecules to a recieving end.
