Almost done one more saloon door

Good job !

For chickens? I think there should also be a wire mesh roof against predators.

It's a compost bin, open for aeration, might make a half roof to maintain moisture in the Texas heat

Tree bark isn't great around vegetables. Better use pea straw or a coconut fibre matting. Heck I would go with plastic with some holes in there.

If you have the funds it's better to go with raised garden beds get some activated biochar to the mix and you have a perfect soil.

I don't have access to pea straw or coconut Fibre.

I'm against the microplastics big time.

I don't have soil so I'm breaking it down with the humic acids etc that's found from the fungal activity. It's magnetically breaking it apart and making the dirt open up and turn into living soils.

As I make more compost I feed them more life and quality soil. I also make my own biochar and weed teas etc for inoculations and tuning biology back to balance

There are plenty of natural mulching materials like jute, hemp, cotton etc

Anyone that cuts grain fields like wheat, barley, has plenty of hay just get creative there is so many options out there.

Tree bark carries the types of micro organisms which are good for trees and shrubs but not for vegetables. Essentially you are undoing your soil mix.
Bare soil is better than bark. If you are set in your ways at least put newspaper/cardboard first then mulch ontop.

Yeah I just haven't come across a source that I actually trust. People put weird things in the fields. I like the idea though!!

You're absolutely right about the type of microbes it supports, which is why I use my weed teas and interplanting to rebalance bacterial ratios.

Bare soil in Texas is a recipe for failure.
I won't use newspaper anymore, and i also only use cardboard without ink on it.

Most ink isn't regulated and are basically forever chemicals not leaving your environment aka soils.
