You can convince yourself of pretty profound things on a trip and (from seeing it happen to others) you can continue to think that those realisations are accurate for a long time afterwards.
Personally i think the best thing to do is to think of how these realisations could make you a "better person" or to live a life you find more meaningful but you should be careful and not assume that these thoughts are 100% accurate. I have seen people completely lose it and act in scarily irrational ways after having these kind of thoughts. Don't want to go into details but just want to say be careful and don't be afraid to ask your friends, family or even psychologists etc what they think about your conclusions, especially if you feel like your losing control.
And know that if you start feeling that you can't trust anyone that you can and should. friends, family and anyone else who tries to help do so because they are genuinly concerned. (this happened to someone very close to me and was extremely distressing, the person concerned is now taking medication and is handling life a lot better)
On a lighter note, if you feel that your new understanding is worth sharing please do, i'd be interested to hear what it is.
