We're getting closer and closer to it, and making advances in biomedical engineering all of the time. We're starting to see bionic limbs that people can move with their nerves, lab grown organs, simple nanomachines disguised as red blood cells that can administer cancer killing medicine directly to tumors, and even gene inhibition that can give us longevity, strength, and intelligence. The age of transhumanism is dawning, and if you're under the age of 60 there is a decent chance that you will be able to live forever. All of this coupled with neuroscience means we could very well see the world's first posthumans in a matter of decades.
Thoughts?
Was thinking of asking this to PaRD actually XD. To start 'Immortality' is impossible. All chances say you WILL die someday, even if you become immune to the two biggest killers aging and disease.
The first thing that would happen is immense procrastination in all areas of life. Eventually there would be great spiritual doubt among most people, religious or not. And after a while, there would be a worldwide reformation in birthing, ancestry, healthcare, and the interconnectedness of society. Our temporary lives help to drive us toward progress. Without it, who knows how many would actually be motivated to change?

Not really sure why you'd even want to live forever.
Because our will to survive can overcome our primitive instincts.

Not by man's works...
Man will be cut-off soon.
Jesus Christ promised Eternal Life to anyone would call on his name.
You'll be proven wrong in time about people extending their lives, although true immortality IS impossible.
