Okay so now you're trying to prove what? If this was stated already, then this topic is totally useless.

Either .99999 repeating = 1, or the mathematics we are learning is wrong. I don't understand what the problem here is...

I CAME UP WITH THIS PROOF ALL BY MYSELF -- IT'S COMPLETELY ORIGINAL

1=1
1/3=.3333...
3*(1/3) = 3*.3333...
1 = .99999....

and everything in between.

sorry .999 <1

He means 0.999..., continuing infinitely with 9's. And it's completely true.

1/3 = 0.333...
Add that three times, you get 0.999...., am I right? Then, 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1. Therefore, 0.999... = 1. Simple.

I would agree with:

1/3*3 = 3/3 = 1

1/3 = .333....
1/3 + 1/3 +1/3 = .999....

.999.... = 1

1/3*3 = 3/3 = 1

1/3 = .333....
1/3 + 1/3 +1/3 = .999....

.999.... = 1

Haha, your choices are limited to: 1) You agree with .999...=1 or 2) You disagree with the basic principles of mathematics

No other options ;\

well yeah, but there is always a problem with it... for example they can prove the 1=2... but that requires theoretical numbers...

with how awesomely fucked up math is, you can do just about anything.

Haha, actually a quick riddle, figure out how I'm making 2=1:

1^2 = 1 ..................(1 times)
2^2 = 2 + 2 .............(2 times)
3^2 = 3 + 3 + 3 ........(3 times)
4^2 = 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 ...(4 times)
so,
x^2 = x + x + x + x....(x times)

Now if we take the derivative of both sides, we get
2x = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1... (x times)
therefore, 2x = x, then 2(x/x) = 1 so 2 = 1.

Right? :D, actually the answers really easy but its some brain fodder :P

the trick is dividing by zero... which you cant... unless you use theoretical (imaginary) numbers instead of 0.

No....where do you see me dividing by zero here, I'm not dividing anything by zero.
