I'm in 10th grade and I've been copying homework since 7th grade. Like literally all of it. I do projects or big assignments and I study for a test when I need to, but I mainly coast by with all As (all honors classes). I want to be a doctor and I feel like I am not going to make it because I have the worst work ethic ever and pretty soon my high school intelligence will run out.

That's an example of how intelligence doesn't = success
I guess.

I'm warning you right now, if you still want to be a doctor, fix this ASAP tongue.gif

Last year I procrastinated horribly. Got bad grades for the most part. But this year I haven't been procrastinating as much. Mainly because I think I am more interested in the subjects. Like last year, I had to study a lot etc. And that just made me get very bored of school. I ended up procrastinating. Now this year, I rarely have to study and I get good grades etc. It just comes easier.

lol, my grade in Physics is a 49%. Precalculus is a 75%.
I have like a 98-99% in english and a like 100.2% in US history. I only care about subjects that I either Like, am interested in, or will actually use in my life. dry.gif

How can we compare the intelligence of dolphins to chimps? They don't study things.

Problem solving skills. However I began my initial statement with, "in the real world". In the real world, what is the point of being naturally gifted if you don't apply it?

I know, but that's still talking about success and not intelligence.

Basically
work ethic + intelligence = success
work ethic + no intelligence = mild success
intelligence + no work ethic = no success

You can always work towards a better work ethic, but you can't grow a better brain.

I know, I know. I work hard on things that interest me. I just can't stand the mundane bullshit.
But anything medicine related = funner than a roller coaster lol

not so much success, but appearance for a lack of a better word

sure, you can be intelligent, but if there's no application or display of it, then how are you any different than those are truly stupid?

This is pretty true. I know a kid who is failing 4 classes but claims to have an IQ of 140. He seems somewhat intelligent (setting aside his retarded political views), but he just doesn't do anything in class. If someone looked at the progress report of him and compared it to someone that really isn't smart but does their homework they would assume the kid was retarded.

Well you could always start applying yourself at any time, that does make you different from those who can't, in a life threatening situation say (or other less dramatic examples).

But you can have potential intelligence that you don't use.
I mean, if you could understand complicated calculus systems or something, but you never expose yourself to them, are you anymore intelligent than a person who tried to understand them but couldn't?

What would be life threatening situation where potential intelligence would help?

Yes, you are. Intelligence is the capacity to gain knowledge. Not the actual knowledge you posses.
