Thank you,

yes these pots are quite efficient but the soil mix dries out faster so you have to water more often.

Thanks to their technology with their aerated structure and the dimensions of the pot, in my opinion this generates a more developed root network (i opened a pot few years ago - they are removable - with a pumpkin), the roots do not go around in circles as in a classic pot, the roots are cut by the air.

These pots are called "air pots" and can be bought on some online growshops.

Adding aromatic herbs was in my plans, including basil whose seeds I have already bought, and other aromatic plants, chives, parsley, coriander, chamomile chervil, and also other flowers, nasturtiums.

Thank you for the good advice because basil will adapt perfectly with this type of rich and moist soil.

Today

2 Rhubarbs and 15 Pumpkins in the vegetable mound :

I thought it was an air pruning pot! Neat, my friend does soil blocks and they do the same thing, without all the polyurethane etc. It's way more effective. Instead of one long tap root that gets root bounded in circles, it spawns hundreds or thousands of new root shoots! Same concepts!

Basil is a great one, same with cilantro, parsley, oregano, dill, thyme, even a tomato will help prevent bugs on pumpkin 🎃

Would be nice if you had corn already 7 inches high in that patch too

Looking great, out of town for wedding but I'll post more

The 3 air pots that I currently have are made of recycled plastic, i don't think the smallers ones are, but that's 100% sure : natural elements are preferred.

So much roots added, indeed !

I will follow the advance of your vegetable garden also :)

Thank you !

My bamboo structure will replace the corn to allow the pumpkins to climb, but yes, the "3 sisters" : Beans + Pumpkins + Corns . They are so strong

With your materials I bet you could use the bamboo the way it is and not need a container at all ;]

Just a thought

Although I'd use them because you have them, and they're way more efficient than the typical pots

The soil will dry too fast in the pot, the bottom would be hard to make, honestly I think it's the best combo between technology and natural appearance i can make actually.

I made this pot cover with my hands and it took me at least 4 or 5 hours ... and I have to do two more! So I use these pots because they are ideal for protecting the roots and soil.

With mulch on it, it should maintain moisture, no need for a bottom, it could be the earth.

They are really nice since you have them, they look good with the bamboo cover aswell

You could do something similar, 😏 😉

Absolutely, but i want to be able to move pots if necessary & this pot cover is insanely hard to make by hands.

So yes, It could be the Earth.

This pot cover is incredibly difficult to make in my opinion, but in theory it is quite possible to use them alone & bottomless if there is good quality soil underneath, which is not my case here.

I made all this soil myself by fetching 90% of the soil from the forest & more or less 10% mixing sand, vegetable soil and some manure 3 years ago.

Here, at home, before, there was nothing, only lifeless gravel.

The best soils are from your native environments that have all the microbes that can handle your heats, colds, and moisture etc. Homemade Compost is the best way.

Feed the soil like livestock! It's alive 🙌 😎 ❤️

Good job, I also had to build and make my own soils ! Much more to do with new compost bin in the making

Well done, mate ! You did well, it's a lot of accumulated effort.

Almost done one more saloon door

All "free" re used, repurposed wood, dug holes into rock slabs by hand. Took a few days. Put it together with no concrete because I didn't want it in my compost aka food.

So I had to layer pack it, rocks, sand, rocks, sand, packing it down each time
