Yeah they need to find new fuel and make ships go at least 120,000+ mph. 6 months is way to long. Maybe have like 7-9 space stations, where you get off at each one, relax (a little of course) and then continue to next ones.
They also wanted to use large mirrors in space to reflect sunlight onto the ice caps to melt them. But CO2 would be best option, need to get those greenhouse gases started. Though it would take I hear like 60+ years to terraform it.
