what time periods are we talking here? right now that mission to mars which is apparently goin down in 2022 or w/e is a 6 month trip atleast

...like I said , same old technology being used , nothing new to protect them from radiation , the effects of micro-gravity or the possibility of being blown to bits by a microscopic piece of an asteroid . These people know this is basically a suicide mission since they won't be coming back . This is not space travel and it's controlled more by luck than any new technology .

Seemed like a reasonable question to me i wonder why people even use jsp anymore or even bother posting. all you get are smartasses and trolls. Cant even have a decent convo on here anymore

Honestly it just seems like you don't like when people disagree with your fantasies.

"Some peoples minds are so open that their brains fall out" is the quote that comes to mind when having discussions like this.

idc if people disagree just nn for rude comments and atm it is fantasy but who knows what the future will bring

Wait.. They're going to Mars and not coming back?

Why'd the U.S. scrap the shuttle program only to pay the Russians to take us up to the space station? Isn't it like $20 million per astronaut one way?

I hope we can figure it out! It will probably cost a ton of money and require more cooperation and less politics!

I think we have a better chance of aliens coming down to our planet then us finding a way to travel light years away

well were aliens aswell so i guess it is possible for us aswell . some species may have millions of years of evolution on us given how old the universe is, therefore we would probably as interesting to them as an ant would be to us. im quite confident we will explore the galaxy so its not a question of IF but when.

The space stations are hit by larger than microscopic pieces of asteroids all the time. Small collisions aren't really an issue since they carry low kinetic energy even at very high speeds.

Micro gravity is an issue, I will be interested how they solve the problem but it should be fairly simple by just starting a constant rotation in the spacecraft to induce a gravitational field, but will be interesting. Will require some interesting design changes to the flooring.

Radiation is probably the easiest to deal with. The spacecraft itself will block some, really just build a thick enough spacecraft and the issue solves itself. More expensive, but easy to solve.
