your page defined my calculator as intelligent

Artificial Intelligence in the spirit of this post also means self-aware. Is your calculator self aware? Is any calculator?

/e Also you misread the article. The first paragraph eliminates calculators as an intelligence: "Concisely, intelligence is the accurate velocity of a being’s ability to reason." Is a calculator a being? Again this points to self-awareness being the defining parameter.

define "aware", it can respond to my voice (not really but a calculator is capable of such cognition)

e: and it can certainly respond to its own inputs, it could also have susu code and other self correcting code internally

ee: and shit, have you ever talked to siri? that b**** knows everything!

define being? my calculator is no less of a being than i am, at least by its ability to be. if only humans are "beings" then ai is impossible, can you be more specific in your definition of intelligence?

e: intelligence is the ability to say "no", you cant program a computer to do the opposite of its programming, just saying...
ee: ^at least not digitally

first define intelligence, then ill pull a guess out of my ass about when it'll be programmable...

e: its also vague and off topic most of the time

You're right, AI is simple and the 2,000 word essay exploring intelligence and it's biological origins is vague. Really, what was I thinking? Clearly you have this all figured out. I'm so sorry I got in your way, I'll leave you to it! :)

yes, im sorry that you are having trouble realizing this, but this is a programming thread, not bio. we are discussing the viability of "programmed intelligence", not exploring where biological intelligence originated, sorry for the confusion.

e: biological intelligence is not digital in case you missed my incessant edits

Wonder if the people who write these articles played video games they wouldn't think A.I. was all that.

i dont think you realize how much easier it is to program a.i. that is impossible to beat vs the "crappy ai", dumbed down to your puny human reflexes, that is actually the challenge to this type of programming, however, it is not the point of the op i would assume to discuss this type of a.i. as it is merely a series of "if/then" statements personified. (but who know's, maybe that's what intelligence is *que matrix music*)
