ya too many people would pass those colorful galaxies off as stars lol... u can see galaxies in such a small picture of earth. u have to zoom in a tremendous amount further just to see galaxies as they are seen here

yea. that star backdrop image is actually a deep space image taken from the hubble telescope. similar to this:

Yeah it's like asking for a picture of a tree with stars in the sky in the background at daytime. You're going to have to have a huge dynamic range to pull it off.

You could do it by merging two shots though. One of the Earth, and then physically block out the light reflected by Earth and take a second photo of the stars behind the Earth, and then recombine them. It would be possible but you'd have to set up the camera beforehand with the express purpose of taking such a shot.

C'mon guys, think outside the box. If Earth reflects too much sunlight to see the background stars, then take a look at the Earth from the opposite side

Don't know if that's real, though.

This image was taken on July 19, 2013 and received on Earth July 20, 2013. The camera was pointing toward EARTH at approximately 898,410,414 miles (1,445,851,410 kilometers) away, and the image was taken using the BL1 and CL2 filters.

This narrow-angle color image of the Earth was taken by Voyager 1 from a distance of more than 4 billion miles from Earth and about 32 degrees above the ecliptic. Image released Feb. 14, 1990.

Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon, entered lunar orbit on Dec. 24, 1968. That evening, the astronauts — Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders — held a live broadcast from lunar orbit, in which they showed pictures of the Earth and moon as seen from their spacecraft.
