Quote (Interesting @ Mar 20 2013 10:50am)
Because:

A) I didn't have a say in whether I would come into existence or not. I just came into existence;

C) I didn't have control over my environment. I feel like, now that I'm about to turn 26, that I am mature enough to understand a lot more of the world and the ways in which it operates;

D) I have little power to change things in my life. In retrospect it seems that I was digging a hole when I was growing up and have now realized that I'm at the bottom of a hole and it'll take time to get out of it. The innocence and the joy in which I saw the world when I was younger only shows itself to me once in awhile now; and

E) What am I going to do? Kill myself? There may be a lot of emotional suffering in life, but there is also some joy, and I think there is an overwhelming possibility that there is nothing after we die. I just have to try to maximize that joy and minimize that suffering while I"m here.

B ) When you die your consciousness will cease to exist, everything points to there being no 'afterlife'. This world seems to be everything we have for now, eventually over time our insignificant planet will be obliterated and humanity will be lost and forgotten along with it. The worst part is, we're only able to ask ourselves these profound questions.

Your attitude towards life is a reflection of yourself. Life doesn't suck, you do.

Who's to say will be obliterated when were currently exploring other plants nobody knows what the future will bring so lets not pretend we know what where talking about well when it come to human extinction for all we know in hundreds/thousands/millions of year gone by we could find plants that could sustain life in other galaxy's and your views on consciousness is a point of view i personally think we have souls.

Life does suck.
There are children exploited in heinous ways, and discarded to the gutters before reaching an age where they might articulate the horrible injustice. There are men from around the world that flock to countries like Moldova, because there are Blue and Pink curtains in the windows that invite child prostitution.
Starbucks has advertised “Free Trade” on their cup holder, but there is little fairness behind it. There are people that get a sense of empowerment from unboxing an iPad. There are Apple factories that have installed nets on the side, so they can catch those works that attempt suicide.
America is almost a functioning theocracy. Life sucks.

I'd also like to point out that there are like 500 million people who subscribe to a religion, Buddhism, based on the ultimate belief that life sucks.

Our galaxy will collide with the Andromeda Galaxy there's no escape from time, the universe is expanding and eventually it will reach absolute zero.

It is kind of weird that we think that. From a biological perspective we should think that life is the best thing imaginable so that we never risk death.

From a biological standpoint we are continuously evolving to better survive the harsh conditions we are placed in. I am surprised we are not born with a hard hat and tool box.

I don't really think that's how it works.

People don't mutate to better survive the conditions that they are in. Genes mutate. Mine, yours, what we pass our kids, etc. Almost all of these mutations are random. Just through the random happenings of life would people with unfavorable mutations die (such as a humanoid born 60,000 years ago with a mutation that made it so he couldn't run from the tiger). Since really nobody is dying anymore from the easy stuff, such as tigers, evolution is pretty much at a stand still in humans because people with unfortunate mutations don't die off. People will pass on 'bad' mutations as well as 'good' mutations (bad and good used in reference to things such as escaping a tiger).

Here is another example. Wolf genes mutate randomly. Some have long noses, some short. Some have six paws, some five. Some have thicker coats, others don't. The noses and the paws don't really play into survival that much, but if you have a thicker coat of fur in the wild you're going to have an easier time surviving. Therefore, there is an increased chance that wolf will survive and be able to reproduce, and there is a greater chance that those wolves with not-even-average but lesser manes of hair will die and not reproduce. Eventually, thick coats of fur become the norm because there are so many more wolves from that lineage of genes running around still mating, while wolves with average or less-than-average manes die more often just cause of their coats and are then not able to reproduce and pass on that mutation.
