Do I understand Buddhism? I'd say yes, but I am not as acquainted with it as are monks.

I was not talking about religion, but Jesus actually said it himself : “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Jesus is saying that the truth will set you free from your own mind, your false self.

"truth" and "religion" are like oil and water my friend. they are naturally separate, and it takes some effort to make them seem as one

"Religious books are not just filled with myths and morality tales as many people believe. The truth is in them; they are just being misinterpreted by religions."
The second version of The Present explains it very well http://www.truthcontest.com/entries/the-present-with-religion/

Morality exists independent of any religion. Religious books contain no more truth than any other collection of short stories

Truth set me free from religion. Things attributed to what Jesus said are generally pretty good, but for example, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26 (and it doesn't get better with the context).

Combine that with 1 John 3:15 for a bit of a laugh: "Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him."

What do you mean? I know there are things greater than myself. My apartment is bigger than I am. The city I live in is bigger still, then the state, country, continent, world, solar system, galaxy, universe...

By the way, there is empirical evidence that all of the things I just listed actually exist.
