ya its a lot of effort. just to partially charge a car battery would take a very fit person a long time to do.
for casual exercise is really pointless unless you want to run a small led interface on the treadmill itself or something.

Have you ever seen those crank flashlights where you have to turn a crank to power the battery? It's the same principle. It takes a LOT of cranking just to get the light to stay on for a full minute.
i do have a crank flashlight but there is little to no resistance while cranking it. i mean i would figure with running/biking you could crank something with a lot more resistance and produce more power as well, no? or would it still be minor compared to regular consumption of appliances.
