i think he meant free as in perpetual motion. according to our understanding of physics this cannot exist.

Actually that is what I meant, but I understand what they were talking about now. Solar energy should be (and IS) free, once you have purchased your own solar panels. In fact, if you produce more energy with solar panels and wind power than your home needs, many power companies end up paying YOU for the difference.
