Read the book: The Cure by sonia levitin :)

Fiction, but describes this situation. with no diversity.

Also the movie Gatacca or however it's spelled. The movie is once again fiction, and everyone is perfect and set to preform a single goal in life. It's a good movie actually.

Actually this may not be a good thing. If this happens then humans will show little to no diversity and what fun is that? if humans do get to this point, which we are probably very close, it most likely would suck.

how does removing genes that do things like cause cancer and other illness make the persons appearance or personality different? its a gene not a body part or a piece of your brain.

If humans do cure all these defects then guess what, massive overpopulation, and there will not be enough anything for everybody so we all die :P

/e Also, if humans can do that who says we won't get cocky and fuck everything up. We know enough already.

actually overpopulation is already here and the technology would remain proprietary for quite a while. also by this point we will probably have created things like settlements on mars and new ways of producing energy and sustainable food sources.

This can't be proven, and humans are already on our way to finding how to alter genes. No where near population on Mars though :P

Overpopulation would get WORSE because humans have no natural predators already, so if we stop disease then we would be untouchable except thru murder and natural cause. As we get more advanced, our predators get smaller.

we see it in technology today. the healthier and longer we live correlates with how much work we can get done in our lives. therefore a scientist now lives for lets say 30 more years than scientist 100 years ago. also our technologies today stay about the same in all major fields because they are dependent on one another for the most part. we can alter genes yes but we have yet to fully understand what exactly does what for us and how to change it for the better.

also you are forgetting that with our technology today we can already destroy all life on earth with a single war so there is no telling on which countries from here on out are going to survive to see this type of technology.

Ok, now you just brought about a nuclear holocaust. So your saying we help ourselves then kill ourselves? That seems to contradict itself to me.

Yes, technology is getting more advanced, and humans living longer could also be a bad thing. Our population is sky rocketing and there is nothing to stop it. If we could somehow get to Mars in the next 20 years, which I doubt will happen, we will be screwed. We obviously don't care about life of other specie, since we recently cared not to long ago.

Oh, and by reliable food sources do you mean more processed poo food or something else.

im saying the idea of the world and countries staying like they are now is absurd. in 100 years the technology will be unimaginable by todays standards and therefore the military technology will also be horrifying. your idea of sustainable food sources is also lacking since there are going to be agricultural advances as well as medical and computer based technologies. you cannot grasp what our future holds until you realize how advances we already are and how much we get done in a single year currently. 20 years will bring amazing changes to our world and the people on it.

I cannot disprove that we are and will make great advances, I mean we only got to the moon like 40 years ago, and we have shit on mars.

All I am saying is that altering human genes may not turn out to be a good thing, and overpopulation also isn't a good thing. I think we should back away from genes, and work more on space and the oceans, since we don't know much about either of those subjects. Curiosity killed the cat, an it may kill the human.
