Er.. a meteor. K2 boundry or whatever the hell it is has large amounts of a material extremely rare on earth, but extremely common on meteors. I think the crater is supposed to be off the coast of Mexico. It would've created enough heat the world over that everything above ground would be burned, while the sun is blocked out by dust.

Men In Black met Kane from the Command and Conquer series, they then combined with Albert Einstein. The men travelled back in time to make a liquid tiberium bomb. Unfortunately the bomb was never finished and was lost in time. A turn of events then caused the earths core to open up and swallow the dinosaurs, thus why we find their skeletons buried underneath the sand.
