I'm not saying this won't happen but it would require EVERYONE to have a phone and have them all be compatible with each other. I actually had this discussion a few months ago with my friends when we were talking about the debit card version of Monopoly. My main point was how easy to take out my wallet and hand somebody $10. The transaction begins and ends within a few seconds and there is no chance for an error to occur with any electronics. The money will never get lost in limbo because of a poor connection or buggy software. Anything that replaced it would have to be available to everybody. This includes 5 year olds buying their lunches at school and so forth.

Yeah, a small technical problem could cause much frustration and inconvenience to people, or even worse, cause people to lose money.

Even then, there could be security problems. If someone had enough know-how, perhaps they could just create credit at will, or steal other people's credit. To expand on the above point about technical problems, perhaps someone could sabotage the computer in a shop that stores the money, causing the shop to lose all their takings.

And if the system was centralised enough, someone could bring it to a standstill, or even do something to get rid of large sums ofl money. It's a bit like a database. If all your data is centralised, one error could cause you to lose it all, just like the money could be lost.

Exactly. Whenever money is involved there is always going to be somebody that will try to exploit the system.

I think the cameras will also improve, and not just the phone itself but also things like network bandwith so you can call eachother with video, I mean when this is the only way of calling.

Also things like voice recognition software so you can text with just saying the word, and that it can be converted to text.

Also that they will put more and more functions in the phone, like GPS for example.

Also the ability to surf on the web on a GPRS network (just like an UMTS laptop card), that this would be as normal as calling people.

The ability that your home network can be controlled by it, so that you can use it as remote for the TV, garage door, car, lights.

Better security where you need your fingerprint (or IRIS scan or voice w/e)  to unlock it.

And all the functions accesable with your voice and a touch screen.

The problem with phone cameras is the lens, not the sensor. If they haven't found a way of making tiny lenses for cameras, they sure as hell fucking won't for phones.

Or you can just call the person.

a decade or so down the road, what do you think will be happening? that i went from some shitty motorol flipphone to an iphone in 3 years is pretty insane to me. what direction will they take in the future? holo-phones? cellphones capable of playing crysis in full settings? anything revolutionary or just hardware updates what say you?

lmao, Crysis on a phone... that would be amazing. Has to have AA at 32x and Ultra Retard High on though.
