lived in vibrant health until he was 96. no chronic or degenrative disease. No cancer. He ate a whole food diet which included complete amino acids and proteins from animal sources.
According to your acid / alkaline theory he should have been plagued with all sorts of disease. He was one of the fittest men in the world
Weston A Price; read his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. He explains on his observations as a dentist about how natives thrived on their native diet; which was indeed omnivorious.
Infact there is little reference to alkaline diet in any nutritional book of reference i have ever read.
Read up on it more, the alkaline diet is bogus.
I don't get why It's so hard to understand, if your body is functioning perfectly at birth(which very few of us are, and those that are - give off the impression of "good genes'(lol)) then you can eat all the fucking shit you want to and probably live to be 100 with little problems.
Quote (LaLanne)
LaLanne blamed overly processed foods for many health problems. He advocated a mostly meatless diet but which included fish (see Pescetarianism)[18][19], and took vitamin supplements.[20][21][22]
He ate two meals a day andavoided snacks. His breakfast, after working out for two hours, consisted of hard-boiled egg whites, a cup of broth, oatmeal with soy milk and seasonal fruit. For dinner he and his wife typically ate raw vegetables and egg whites along with fish. He did not drink coffee.[5]
LaLanne said his two simple rules of nutrition are:"if man made it, don't eat it", and"if it tastes good, spit it out."[23] He offered his opinion of the average person's diet:
"Look at the average American diet: ice cream, butter, cheese, whole milk, all this fat. People don't realize how much of this stuff you get by the end of the day. High blood pressure is from all this high-fat eating. Do you know how many calories are in butter and cheese and ice cream? Would you get your dog up in the morning for a cup of coffee and a donut? Probably millions of Americans got up this morning with a cup of coffee, a cigarette and a donut. No wonder they are sick and fouled up."
Holy shit, I disagree slightly with him, but I like this guy. His only source of animal protein were from fish, which can be very beneficial, they're extremely rich in omega-3. I never said anything bad about fish.
According to my acid/alkaline "theory" it was for the most part right, he ate lots of raw vegetables for dinner, most people don't even eat vegetables, and IF they do, they cook them. Just because you're not on an alkaline diet does not mean you're just going to up and die, but it does leave you open to sickness, hell this guy probably could have lived well into his hundreds if he cut back on the eggs and fish, and ate more raw greens.
You wanted me to explain LaLanne to you as if his diet was so awful or something, it wasn't the best it could have been, but it is most certainly 100 times better then the average persons is today.
The alkaline diet is definitely not bogus, I think I need to repeat myself *again* - pay attention this time, please.
I'm on the alkaline diet. This post was edited by DieTryin' on Aug 12 2011 06:35pm
