Does it cross the galactic rift?
According to the Mayans, once it crosses that, shit happens.
According to "science," the poles shift and shit happens.
Yes but the whole theory is based on very long cycles, but one of the 2 cycles they told you is really only a 1 year cycle. We cross the galactic rift every 26000 years also. Basically if anything is going to happen it would have happened 26000 years ago also.
The only real danger is that gravitational shifts caused by crossing the galactic rift could 'possibly' (but highly unlikely) cause asteroid apophis or any of the comets that orbit Earth to change course or push their orbits closed inwards to the Earth. Even if an asteroid were to come towards the Earth though, multiple nuclear missiles fired at different sections of the asteroid would probably cause it to crumble into smaller pieces leaving it to fizzle up in the atmosphere. The UN supply NASA with only £1 million (GBP) for monitoring incoming asteroids however, meaning they can only monitor 2% of the sky. What the government needs to do, is increase their resources for monitoring the sky to £100 million. That way we are guaranteed to know exactly when and where an asteroid will come, so we can stop it before it reaches us. This would also help us cut down on the ridiculous amounts of nuclear weapons we have. A large asteroid could take up to 100 10megaton weapons to destroy.
