...there is no technology currently available or on the horizon that would allow us to do anything more than we do now .
yes atm but maybe soon

Any successful space colonization will take place the same way that it did on earth.
1. Reach a place that can possibly be colonized, build an outpost.
2. Reach out from outpost to find additional outposts.
3. Repeat.
This idea that humans need to and will find a far off planet to move a portion of the population to is ridiculous, so all of the methods of massively fast travel are unneeded. The mere discussion of travel through wormholes is ludicrous. As soon as we find a place that we can draw water from that will be outpost 1.
seems logical. people criticized Pythagoras for his claims the earth was round, people said sound barrier would never be broken just like we would never go into space even land on the moon. yet all of these were accomplished. at the moment our technological knowledge about space travel is limited but im sure more breakthroughs will lead to different opinions. this conversation is just meant for open discussion and theories. Mars may have water beneath surface frozen just like europa but atm we can still barely get there and will take months-years. and then where do we go from there as far as i kno the next system is 2 light years away. that may not have any water resources then what? do we do the one way mission and hope for the best ? so we still need alternative forms of travel imo
