summation: drugs are good, unless you do drugs you can have no opinion on drugs

opinion1: it is exactly the same as any other hallucinogen (yes from experience)

opinion2: this thread is ridiculous, only a moron would attempt to convince anyone that a dangerous chemical was ok for recreational ingestion

opinon3: ted talks says alot of stupid things, who cares? go ahead and smoke/drink/inject whatever you want, but stop trying to cite fake authorities as evidence that a brain altering chemical is a good idea

vouch

I'm fine with their choice to use, but too many users are simply too ignorant to realize the experience is a novelty and not a key to a different plane of existence.

This is the key. One of the primary effects of hallucinogens is one of poignancy, an unshakable feeling that what you're experiencing is very important and meaningful and enlightened and aimed at the truth. The combination of this with the complete destruction of rationality causes the intoxicated to come up with all sorts of groundless integrative explanations for the experience being one of epiphany.

DMT is amazing.

I've felt the vibration of the universe and it is indescribable.

DMT is like an instant spiritual enlightenment, depending on how who and where you do it.

I've felt the vibration of the universe off cannabis. Depends on your own spiritual level.

never tried schizophrenia either, but i think i can safely say the things in those peoples minds isn't some form of enlightenment.

fact of the matter is you are supposed to take the experience as a novelty and those who don't are about as bad off as the mentally ill.

Yeah it would be different if someone took a DMT hit came down and had some incredible knowledge usable for everyday people. like making quantum physics and relativity work together or some shit. I think its just a extreme feeling of euphoria where people think they are "connecting to the universe"

TEDx is local and smaller, and from my experience tends to be far less strict in the quality of talks it allows.

Then again TED is often shit too.

TED grew too big of a phenomenon too fast. They used to allow only a few people, both for lecturers and listeners, but now it's so huge, they need too many speakers to satisfy the crowd

my primary argument against the consumption of psychedelics, and especially DMT is that they have a tendency to make people that consume them insufferable cunts and idiotic eliticists.

in a way this actually mimics schizophrenia. one of the proposed mechanisms for the development of paranoid schizophrenia is the schizophrenic's inability to discern meaningful perceptions from those that are to be disregarded. meaning is given where there's none to be found.

where people think they are "connecting to the universe"

and the "dissolution of the self" or "connecting to the universe" is more akin to projecting one's own feelings and perceptions into one's environment. not being able to localise your affects doesn't mean that the localisation isn't real.
this kind of shit also leads to all sorts of rubbish idiotic mysticist rubbish.

It is. It is in fact indigenous to countless organisms and eco systems all over the planet, you can find it pretty much anywhere. Speculations have been that in humans it is the pineal gland producing the chemical because it has all the properties to do so, and so far it's a really good guess. It has been proven to be produced in the pineal glands of rodents.

Very interesting molecule indeed, I'm very thankful for some of the experiences I've had with it. :)
