This is the key. One of the primary effects of hallucinogens is one of poignancy, an unshakable feeling that what you're experiencing is
very important and meaningful and enlightened and aimed at the truth. The combination of this with the complete destruction of rationality causes the intoxicated to come up with all sorts of groundless integrative explanations for the experience being one of epiphany.
