Didn't see it. Usually like this type of show, but have to agree too often the effort to appeal to the masses tends to keep the content in an introductory/elementary level.

I must say I wish they had gone with Brian Greene rather than Neil deGrasse Tyson. Clearly intelligent, I just usually find him a bit pontificating.

I didn't like this episode as much as I was hoping for. I'm giving the series the benefit of the doubt, however, since it's just the first episode which was made as an introduction (I'm hoping)

side note i loved the ending, how car sagan took time out of his day to take neil on a little "date" of all things to hang out with him. that was really awesome

The best part is, Tyson ended up going to Harvard. Can you imagine if you got to meet someone like Carl Sagan and then thinking "nah, I think I'll learn more from someone else." Gutsy move, but it ended up working out for him.

I watched about 3/4 of it.

They REALLY dumbed this down. I couldn't finish it, I felt like a 5th grader.

It wasn't dumbed down.
It's science geared towards kids.

In the second episode Neil breaks out something like "The Theory of Evolution is a FACT, and frankly I feel spiritually enlightened knowing that i'm genetically related to all living things"

IMO Pandering abit to much to the fedora wearers.

The difference is that for the audience it was meant for it wasn't dumbed down.
