Dad used to like his stihl, until he got his new chainsaw. Think he ended up getting an echo(can double check if needed). We do a lot of cutting up at our cabin and he ended up liking it more. It could just be that it's newer, lighter, and smaller but still has power.

If interested, I can ask my dad/mom if I remember tomorrow/this weekend.

Sure if you don't mind, I won't be buying for a few days, so any input is appreciated.
I have a bunch of small trees growing around my house that need cut down and beside my garage, and I have a giant maple tree in the middle of my yard that the branches are grown out against the house that they need trimmed. Plus I would like to use it to gather firewood on my uncles farm property, he said I could go there and cut up a few trees that fell from a storm last year and keep the lumber for myself.

I'll try remembering.

You got indoor fireplace? Or for outdoor fires? Just curious :)

Outdoor firepit that I built out of an old brick oven that was in my back yard, I demolished it with a sledge and puzzle pieced it into a 4'x4' square pit and cemented it all together. It turned out pretty nice for reclaimed rocks/bricks.
I also just got a projector for my basement for the girlfriend and kids to watch movies on, and we're going to put it out in the back yard in the summer to watch a movie and sit by the camp fire. :)

It sounds like you just need it for a one time use. Have you considering renting one?

I will use it more than one time lol, believe me. My uncle always has trees falling down, and he has 10 acres of nothing but trees, I'd like to continually get my firewood from him and other people in the area. We had a few trees fall down a few blocks from my house a few months back and a guy with a chainsaw that lived near the fallen tree was given permission by the fire department and borough guys to cut it up and keep the lumber. I'm always on the lookout for wood, I had about 20 fires this past summer and we spent more than $200 in firewood, so why not spend that money on a saw instead and pile up? I have an entire dry garage that doesn't get used that I can fill with wood. :)

oh in your origiinal post it seemed like a one time job. Well yeah seems like a good idea. Unfortunately I've never owned a "good" chainsaw, I only have a cheap little pole saw that I use once in a great while on small stuff.

Apologies on that, I should have further explained my full intended usage for it. I just reposted what I had in GH and didn't think much about the details.

I have a old stihl that is basically indestructible, once I checked for how much they go on eb***, used they are very cheap.
Husqvarna was known as a really good manufacture, dont know if they are still worth the money.
Makitas are cheaper than you would think.
Dolmar makes quality chainsaws.

one they got is an echo 310

he likes that its lighter - makes cutting trees down all day easier + if you have to climb to cut specific limbs down the light weight comes in handy.
afaik, most of the trees he has encountered, it fared well against. overall he likes it.
