I think we won't have much of a significant leap anytime soon as far as microchips and computers go. Did you know Micron has reached the smallest you can possibly go with microchip/harddrive technology? They made a 500gb hard drive the size of a postage stamp, and the bus connections are only 3 atoms across. With that said I feel confident that the newest big thing will either be biotechnology enhancements or much more efficient energy-harnessing renewable energy source.

I think it will definitely be communication related. The past major technological inventions; tv's, radio, phones, and Internet, are all designed to convey information an ideas to other people. I think the closest thing we could have would be holograms. We are starting to get 3D tv's that are affordable and there was the Tupac hologram concert. Soon we might have home hologram projectors that allow you to watch live converts in your living room or sit down next to someone who is really on tr other side of the planet.

Another guess would be microcomputers. Basically laptops or tablets that are as powerful as $5,000 desktops. Between what asno said and the Raspberry Pi this I think could happen relatively soon.

i can predict you being first in line at your local store for when they sell the automatic refilling liquor bottle with crazy straw attachment.

You do know, of course, that quantum computer could, given the right algorithm, bypass RSA?

Quantum computers would basically let anyone (or at least the user) access whatever they want. Not to mention, solve a bunch of math problems....which has me interested.

It is not predictable. Who thought in 1980 that the internet would be the next big thing decades later? Not even the brightest marketers or CEO's could have predicted that.

I'm throwing out there that it may be  impossible to know. Technology is subject to chaos theory.

The internet was predicted in Ender's Game.
